Death to the Staycation

The popularity of the word “staycation” is, in my opinion, directly proportional to the price of petroleum. Gas prices go up, and suddenly every other travel publication is touting the virtue of the glorious staycation — a vacation that takes place close to one’s home (thus saving travelers from budget-busting prices at the pump).

Although the current high gas prices are expected to come down in coming months, rates remain at about $4 per gallon; this doesn’t bode well for Memorial Weekend travelers who aren’t interested in staycationing at the local pool or the nearest state park.

And the bus hunt begins..

Since we left Melbourne, Florida to head north to Lynchburg, Virginia to deliver the Oliver – we’ve been moving at a whirlwind pace. Heading up, we started a search for a temporary home on wheels – which yielded little acceptable results. In the southeast, so many sticks & stables RVs have suffered considerable water damage.

Farewell, Orion!

On Saturday, May 7 – we watched our beloved 17′ Oliver Travel Trailer and Toyota Tundra drive off after spending an evening giving its new owner a full orientation.
